George Li is the Rapid DNA Program Manager in the FBI Laboratory CODIS Unit.  Prior to joining the FBI laboratory in 2017, Mr. Li worked for 30 years at the Virginia Department of Forensic Science laboratory in Richmond, Virginia.

Mr. Li received his Master’s in Forensic Science from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1987.  Mr. Li’s career at the Virginia DFS laboratory started in 1987 until his retirement in 2017.  Mr. Li worked as a forensic serologist and DNA analyst. He became a supervisor in 1992 and has supervised the DNA Casework and DNA Databank sections.  Mr. Li was involved in the implementation of the state DNA Databank and CODIS software at the Virginia laboratory system in the 1990s.  He served as the State CODIS Administrator for more than 20 years.  Mr. Li has been a member of the Scientific Working Group for DNA Analysis Methods (SWGDAM) for most of his career.

In his current position at the FBI Laboratory, Mr. Li is responsible for facilitating the implementation of Rapid DNA technology at law enforcement booking stations in coordination with each state’s CODIS laboratories. One important aspect of this is the recent completion of live Rapid DNA pilot activities with arrestee samples in early 2020, at law enforcement booking stations in four states and one federal booking facility.
