Jennifer Churchill Cihlar

Research Assistant Professor in GSBS, UNT Health Science Center

Jennifer is currently a Research Assistant Professor in GSBS at the UNT Health Science Center where she works in the research group at the Center for Human Identification.  She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Texas A&M University and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences specializing in Human and Molecular Genetics from the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Jennifer’s research interests lie in the development and application of human identification, population genetic analyses, and development of molecular biology technologies.  Jennifer’s current research projects focus on defining the molecular biology of library preparation and the chemistry of massively parallel sequencing technologies.  The genetic markers of Jennifer’s primary interest are those of forensic relevance such as the mitochondrial genome, microsatellites, and single nucleotide polymorphisms.  Jennifer also is directing the transfer of massively parallel sequencing into the operational laboratories of UNTHSC Center for Human Identification’s Missing Persons Unit and Forensic Unit.
