Supervising Lieutenant for the Major Crimes Unit, Sacramento County District Attorneys Office

Kirk Campbell is a currently a Lieutenant in the Major Crimes Unit of the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. He served as a Police Officer with the Sacramento Police Department from 1986 to 2000, was promoted to Sergeant serving from 2000 to 2011 and retired as a Supervisor in the Homicide Unit. He joined the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office in 2011 as a Criminal Investigator. Kirk was part of the team that conducted Investigative Genetic Genealogy resulting in the identification of Joseph DeAngelo as the Golden State Killer in 2018.  Since then, he has taken part in 17 additional IGG investigations resulting in 13 identifications including 2 unidentified human remains cases, and 1 exoneration case. These include the arrest of Roy Charles Waller in the NorCal Rapist series and the exoneration of Ricky Davis accompanied by the arrest of Michael Green in the murder of Jane Hylton in El Dorado Hills, CA.

 

Kirk has a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice (1984) from the California State University Sacramento.
