Manfred Kayser

Professor of Forensic Molecular Biology and Head of the Department of Genetic Identification, Erasmus University Medical Center Rotterdam

Dr. Manfred Kaysers’s research interests include various areas of molecular genetics and molecular biology that allow addressing currently unsolvable problems in forensic practice and developing scientific and technical solutions.

He was instrumental in introducing and further developing forensic Y-chromosome analysis and forensic DNA phenotyping (particularly appearance prediction from DNA for forensic use).

Dr. Kayser introduced molecular estimation of trace deposition time using circadian biomarkers, and major contributions to forensic tissue identification using various types of biomarkers (mRNA, miRNA, CNV-DNA, microbial DNA).

He won the Scientific Prize of the International Society of Forensic Genetics (2017), and Research Award of the German Society of Legal Medicine (1998), and has 250 peer-reviewed articles in international scientific journals (cited ~16,000 time, h-index: 70).
