Roberta Fogliatto Mariot, Ph.D., is a scientist and researcher in Molecular Biology applied to Forensic and Food Science. She currently works for NicheVision Forensics LLC (USA) and collaborates with the Rome Scientific Investigations Department, Arma dei Carabinieri (Italy); the Human Genetics and Molecular Laboratory, Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS – Brazil); and the Soil Science Department, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS – Brazil). Roberta is also a member of the National Institute of Forensic Science and Technology (INCT Forense), Brazil. She received her bachelor’s degree in Food Engineering, her master’s degree in Food Microbiology, and her Ph.D. in Food Science from UFRGS, Brazil, where she also completed her Postdoctoral training as Postdoctoral Assistant in a Forensic Science project focused on the assessment of a STR system in order to trace the Cannabis sativa L. in Brazilian territory. This project was a collaboration among the Brazilian Federal Police (BFP), UFRGS, and PUCRS. While studying for her Ph.D. she was a visiting scholar at RIKILT Food Safety Institute, Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR), The Netherlands. Between 2016 and 2019, she had joined the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry of Florida International University (FIU), Miami, Florida, USA, to collaborate on two different projects that conduct research on high speed genotyping using rapid polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and long-read genotyping of Y chromosome short tandem repeats (YSTRs). Her research interests are focused on advanced molecular biology techniques applied to Forensic human and non-human DNA.
