Dr. Santiago Ginart graduated in 2015 as a biochemist from the School of Pharmacy and Biochemistry of the University of Buenos Aires. Since then, he has worked at the Genetic Fingerprint Service (Servicio de Huellas Digitales Genéticas – SHDG -; first institutional center dedicated to forensic molecular biology in Argentina, created by Dr. Corach Daniel in 1991) as a forensic analyst and where, in addition, he carried out his PhD dissertation: “Tracking, detection and characterization of molecular markers of forensic interest. Development of analytical methodologies for the analysis of degraded DNA and biological traces”.
He is the author of works mainly associated with the design and development of real-time PCR systems for DNA quantification and high-resolution melting analysis (doi.org/10.1016/j.fsigss.2019.09.119; 10.1016/j.forsciint.2018.11.013; doi.org/10.1016/j.fsigss.2017.09.211; doi.org/10.1002/elps.201600185; doi.org/10.1016/j.fsigss.2015.09.107).
In addition, he is co-author of other publications in the field of population genetics (doi.org/10.1007/s11033-018-4246-0; doi.org/10.1016/j.fsigss.2015.09.046), development of specific markers for the detection of degraded DNA (doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0187190; doi.org/10.1016/j.fsigss.2019.10.159; doi.org/10.1016/j.fsigss.2019.10.156), DNA preservation methods (doi.org/10.1016/j.fsigss.2019.09.112) and mitochondrial dysfunction (doi.org/10.1007/s00395-019-0745-y).
On the other hand, he is a member of the teaching staff of the Forensic Genetics chair (department of Microbiology, Immunology, Biotechnology and Genetics of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry) where he teaches at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Currently, he is holder of a postdoctoral fellowship awarded by the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (Conicet, Argentina) to work on the detection and quantification of mitochondrial sequences of forensic and diagnostic interest.
