Urfan Mukhtar received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from SUNY Albany and has completed additional graduate coursework in Biostatistics. In May of 2000, he joined the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center (NYSP FIC) as a technician. Throughout the years and various promotional opportunities, he worked his way up from a Serology analyst to a DNA analyst and is currently a Supervisor of Forensic Services in the DNA Casework section of the NYSP FIC. During his career, he was afforded the opportunity to be trained in processing and analyzing kinship, missing persons, human remains, and complex mixture cases. Urfan Mukhtar and a team specializing in kinship cases were tasked with designing, internally validating, and implementing the NYSP Familial Search program in 2018.
