Daniel Russell has worked in forensic science since 1997, beginning his career in the Controlled Substances Identification Unit at the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. In 2006, he transitioned to the Forensic Biology Unit, and in 2015, joined the Oklahoma City Police Department’s Forensic DNA Unit. Over the past two decades, Dan has developed a deep passion for using Microsoft Excel to enhance laboratory operations, analysis workflows, decision-making, sample processing, and research. He has designed multiple Excel-based systems that have improved his lab’s efficiency and data reporting capabilities. Dan’s goal is to share this knowledge with other forensic professionals—analysts, administrators, and beyond—and demonstrate how Excel can be used in innovative and impactful ways to strengthen any laboratory system.
