IGG and DNA Specialist, Historic Homicide Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)

Deanna Cote is the IGG and DNA Specialist with the Historic Homicide Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), where she supports the investigation of historic and complex homicide cases through innovative applications of forensic DNA and investigative genetic genealogy (IGG).

Deanna holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Nipissing University and began her career with the OPP in 2013. In her current role, she works closely with major case managers to support informed decision-making surrounding forensic evidence and identify new opportunities for DNA testing. She also coordinates the complex logistical requirements associated with IGG and contributes to the OPP’s ongoing development of an IGG Unit.

Deanna is particularly passionate about thinking outside the box and exploring new possibilities in forensic DNA. She finds few things more rewarding than seeing innovative DNA strategies contribute to resolving cases that have remained unsolved for years.
