Certified Adult/Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (CA-SANE) and SANE-A Certified Forensic Nurse

Jennifer Degner, BSN, RN, CA-SANE, SANE-A is a Certified Adult/Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (CA-SANE) and SANE-A certified forensic nurse with nearly two decades of experience providing trauma-informed, forensic medical care to survivors of sexual assault, physical abuse, intimate partner violence, non-fatal strangulation, and elder abuse. Having cared for patients across the age spectrum, Jennifer brings a uniquely comprehensive perspective to forensic nursing practice. Currently serving as a SANE/SAFE Project Instructor, Jennifer develops and delivers statewide forensic nursing education across Colorado and provides telehealth consultation to support forensic examinations throughout the state.

Throughout her career, Jennifer has been a passionate advocate for survivors and a dedicated collaborator across the multidisciplinary team — working closely with law enforcement, forensic analysts, prosecutors, and victim advocates to ensure survivors receive both compassionate care and quality evidence collection. She has served as an expert witness in jury trials across multiple states.

Jennifer is the founder of the Global SAK Donation Project, a humanitarian initiative that has donated over 21,000 forensic evidence collection supplies to organizations in Kenya, Zambia, Somalia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. She also serves on the Board of the DNA Justice Project, a nonprofit dedicated to educating policymakers on the power of forensic DNA to deliver justice and prevent crime.

A sought-after speaker and educator, Jennifer has presented at national and international conferences, reaching forensic analysts, law enforcement professionals, and health care providers across the United States and Africa. She is honored to bring her voice — and the voices of survivors, investigators, analysts, and prosecutors — to the ISHI stage to explore the critical role SANEs play in the journey from assault to justice.
